SAS Facilities has been working closely with the rail industry for over five years, working direct for major construction and utilities contractors, and train operating companies. We have developed exemplary quality, safety and environmental credentials enabling us to offer our clients the best possible vegetation management service.
SAS Facilities works with clients to minimize the risk of disruption caused by vegetation adjacent to overhead power lines, railways, highways and public open spaces and specialize in providing advice on all aspects relating to trees in urban, rural, utility and industrial settings.
Railway access stairways
The new precast concrete access stairways from SAS Facilities provides a modular, easy to install system for use on railway and roadside embankments.
These highly durable concrete steps with galvanized steel hand rails are supplied in modular 1.65m string unit with risers and tie bars. They can be quickly and easily assembled by hand in a single operation without the need for heavy plant and lifting equipment.
Ease of assembly means that, subject to clearance of an embankment’s vegetation, the stairway modules can be installed on a rough terrain with the minimal amount of preparatory groundwork. One of our teams of installers can typically complete a stairway within two to three working days ensuring significant cost savings compared with more traditional methods of access stair construction.
The stairway system is designed for both permanent and temporary installation with concrete infill being used for permanent and type one stone for temporary. The system can be applied to embankment slopes with a gradient of between 25 and 45 degrees, ensuring compatibility with most railway line and roadside locations.
SAS Facilities have been installing this system for over five years across the railway network and have installed more than a hundred complete sets. We are now producing two different width sizes 1.2m and 1.5m to accommodate the use by one person or two or more carrying equipment down to the line.
